September 5 - 9, 2011: Interactive Documentaries
September 12 - 16, 2011: The Industry of Media Award Ceremonies
September 26 - 30, 2011: Reality TV and Otherness
Proposals need not be any longer than a sentence or two.
If interested, please contact In Media Res (inmediares.gsu@gmail.com) with topic proposals or for more information about the individual theme weeks. Be sure to include the name of the theme week for which you would like to be involved in the subject line of the email.
Theme week coordinators will notify potential curators of the status of their proposal within two weeks of the submission deadline.
Academics, journalists, critics, media professionals and fans are all welcome to submit proposals.
The actual piece should include a 30-second to 3-minute clip, an image, or a slideshow accompanied by a 300 to 350 word response to/contextualization of the clip, image, or slideshow. In addition to curating your piece, you will be expected to engage with the other pieces presented that week as a means of fostering discussion and further fleshing out the individual topic in relation to the week’s theme.

Find the Future | NYPL at 100
May 20, 8 p.m.–May 21, 6 a.m.
For the first time in its history, NYPL will open the doors to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building for an entire night to allow 500 prequalified players to descend on the Library to play Find the Future: The Game, created by the acclaimed game designer Jane McGonigal. In this "Write All Night," players tackle a list of 100 quests and their contributions will be made into a book. As the quests are completed, they become "unlocked" in the online portion of the game, which can be played by anyone starting May 21.

I'm pleased to have the opportunity to invite you to a special event in NYC
on Wednesday, February 23rd, 6-8pm to discuss the state of the emerging
field of online and mobile games designed to improve health and behavioral
health. Bringing together researchers, clinicians, technology developers,
and entrepreneurs, this is a limited attendance event that we hope will be
the first of a series of bi-monthly meetings in NYC to provide an ongoing
forum to share ideas, explore collaborations, and discuss the future of
health games. In each meeting we will have 2-3 presenters who will show a
game or discuss their research, followed by a Q&A session.
This event has been organized with the support and input of Games for
Health, Games for Change, and the NYU Educational Communication and
Technology program. Attendance is free.
Demos/Speakers Include:
1. Lit 2 Quit <http://lit2quit.wordpress.com/> - Dr. Chuck Kinzer, CCTE
Program Coordinator at Columbia University and Principal Investigator at the
Games for Learning Institute at the Teachers College site, along with Azi
Jamalian and Jess Mezei, will present a mobile game being developed to
reduce smoking.
2. Mindless <http://idl.cornell.edu/> Eating Challenge - Dr. Geri Gay,
Director of the Interaction Design Lab at Cornell University along with
Professor Kenneth Bissett will present a mobile game to develop healthy
eating habits among kids.
